Young Local Government Programme 2009

Last updated 24th June 2009

The council’s younger employees network, Generation BEST, is offering its members the chance to take part in the Young Local Government Programme 2009, an exciting conference aiming to develop young talent within local authorities.

The conference brings together new talent working in local government organisations throughout England and Wales for an intensive three-day course. The 2009 programme will be the fourth annual event and will be held in Lancaster from 5-8 October.

This exciting initiative is part of the Young UK and Ireland Programme, which aims to stretch the minds, broaden the horizons and develop the communication skills and confidence of people who are young in years, or in terms of professional development, or both.

Each delegate will have the opportunity to develop their presentation skills by delivering a 900-word paper on a topic of current interest or controversy, which is judged with feedback during the course.

There are also lively debates on the hot issues of the moment, in-depth group discussions and guest speakers, all adding up to a unique experience and the opportunity to be named Local Government Young Thinker of the Year.

Generation BEST will be sponsoring up to two delegates to take part. If you would like to find out more about this and other professional development opportunities available through Generation BEST, contact us on 0121 675 1545 or at GenerationBest@birmingham.gov.uk
