Young Programme 2009

Two members of the council’s younger employees’ network, Generation BEST, will be competing for the title of 'Young Local Government Thinker of the Year' in October at the Young Local Government Programme 2009.

Ashley Innis, Cabinet Support Officer for Cllr Rudge, Cabinet Member for Equalities and HR, and Dharmendra Singh, Care Services Administrative Officer in the Adults and Communities directorate, will pitch their public speaking skills against their counterparts from local government throughout England and Wales at the event to be held in Lancaster. They will each deliver a 900 word paper on a topic of current interest or controversy and develop their presentation skills through feedback from a panel of judges.

The competition is part of a wider 3-day conference of the Young UK and Ireland Programme, which is designed to develop communication skills and confidence of people in the early stages of their careers in local government. Ashley and Dharmendra will experience lively debates on the hot issues of the moment, in-depth group discussions and guest speakers, and a chance to make valuable new contacts.

We wish both of them the best of luck and we will let you know how they get on!
