Community Options Travel Training DVD Launch
On the 1st October 2009, the Community Options Team from the Adults and Communities directorate launched their new DVD about Travel Training. The event was held at the Council House, Victoria Square.
The team work with adults with learning disabilities, teaching them how to use public transport and going over the most appropriate routes.
The DVD was created to educate and inform current and potential service users, members of the public, staff and partners. The team wanted to show what is happening in Birmingham, giving a view of what can be expected.
The idea for the DVD come from the team’s BEST Workshop and became a BEST Action.
The team wanted to show a true to life view in the DVD, so they used real service users and staff rather than actors. The whole process from start to finish was enjoyable for all, from auditioning everyone interested in having a starring role to using everyone’s skills and knowledge to full effect.
The launch was held over the entire day, attended by service users, staff, partners and the Lord Mayor.
Peter Hay, Strategic Director, had the task of introducing the DVD in the morning. He said; “It was great to come to a launch filled with enthusiasm and joy at a job well done. Like all good movie premieres it was good to meet the stars and admire their fashions on show too! I was impressed by the DVD, which addresses the concerns people have about travel training, whilst showing that that once the work is completed, travelling independently transforms lives.”
It was very clear how proud everyone involved was of the DVD and how much passion and commitment they all have for the service. The launch was a fabulous day and enjoyed by all who attended.
