The BEST Bake Off
BEST Leader Henry Biddington and his team from Regulatory Services, Chief Executives Directorate, decided to hold an office Bake-off competition. The willing participants were asked to bake delicious goodies for their colleagues. The winner would be decided by the team.
The Bake off took place over the summer of 2010 following an action idea from Adrienne Oliver. Each week, two members of the team baked identical cakes for the office. The team then voted on who baked the best cake and the winner went through to the next round. This carried on until we had two finalists who competed to be crowned the BEST Baker. June Farmer was crowned the winner with Mark Fitzgerald taking the runner up place.
The bake off promoted healthy competition and friendly banter, as well as helping the team to bond and improve trust in colleagues. It was a fun activity which the whole team got involved with and are planning to do again next summer.
Following the bake off, the team held a Macmillan Coffee morning cake sale where team members used their new baking skills to raise money for charity. They raised £100 and all ate well that morning!
"We all enjoyed eating and baking the cakes although I may suggest team exercise next year as it may be more healthy!"
