The team at Anthony Road Children’s Day Centre, led by BEST Leader Felicia Forbes in the Children, Young People and Families Directorate, are demonstrating that they really know how to show success and have put the community at the heart of their service.

During their BEST workshop it was decided that they would benefit from doing a community road show which would enable the team to engage with the local area. The idea behind this was to make the community aware of the children’s centre but also to encourage them to use the services offered there. The team are hoping to pitch to the infamous BEST Dragon’s Den so that they can invest in a mobile promotions stand and other materials to support them to achieve this.

The team at Anthony Road Children's Centre

Part of the children’s centre, Sunshine Nursery offers a wide variety of other activities including pilates, yoga bugs and coffee mornings. The children’s centre also offers a free confidential counselling service called Relate Birmingham, which is working with Ashram Housing to pilot a new counselling service for children in families affected by domestic violence or abuse. The nursery also works in partnership with the Jobcentre to run events aimed at lone parents and to raise awareness of other opportunities, courses or jobs available to them.

One of the many ways that the team have celebrated success recently is to hold a graduation day for their youngsters as they leave the nursery to start school. The children were presented with a certificate by their teacher, Jewel Longe Alleyn, and a few words were shared on behalf of the children. This was the first official graduation ceremony that the nursery had conducted and many parents were in attendance at the ceremony. It was a great success and the children enjoyed participating in this event.
