Small Changes Result In Massive Impact
New BEST Leader for Saltley Leisure Centre, Toni Hollis, embraced her role by ensuring she had a sound understanding of the programme and how it could benefit the team and individuals. With the support of the BEST Team she gained the confidence to deliver a productive workshop in July 2009 and was enthused and delighted with the encouraging response from the team.
The workshop discussion brought the team closer together and allowed them to explore ways of ensuring they offer an excellent service to all centre users.
The team have continued to embed the Council’s core values into their working practise by making small changes to working patterns and instigating extra in house training for staff.
This has allowed them to deal with the huge increase in members of the community signing up for free gym use and induction under the Be-active scheme, with very little disruption to the efficient service they offer.
By being flexible with their working hours, pulling together as a team and increasing communications with the public the team has discovered the ability to adapt whilst delivering a very busy service.
Since their workshop, they now hold monthly staff meetings with more senior staff, which has proved very useful in helping to improve service delivery at the centre.
Toni said, "What I did not realise was that the small changes we have made in our organisation has had a massive impact on how we work".
