Slugs And Snails And Worm Tails

Amy Bickle, BEST leader at the Circle Day Nursery, Kingstanding, and her team, have been developing partnerships with parents by involving them in creating a nursery vegetable patch.
As part of their BEST discussion, the team felt they wanted to involve parents more in the life of the nursery, to improve communication and ensure parents and children felt comfortable there.
Amy and team-member Paul identified a suitable area of the nursery garden and were given a helping hand from BEST team colleagues to prepare the patch for planting potatoes, peas, raspberries and carrots.

The children will be responsible for digging the vegetables up, as well as identifying exciting recipes to taste their produce! They have already been discovering where their food comes from by shelling peas, tasting different herbs, cutting potatoes into chips and vegetable painting.
The nursery will keep parents involved by providing a healthy eating workshop and encouraging them to participate in other healthy eating activities with their children.
This green-fingered BEST action will help meet the Brighter Futures and Council Plan objective of ‘Staying Healthy’.
