Shining Stars - staff recognition for Adults and Communities

As part of our recognition work, we support other directorates in rewarding their staff and celebrating their successes. In 2010 we sponsored a number of directorate recognition schemes, including The Shining Star Awards in Adults & Communities.
The Shining Star Awards is now in it’s sixth year and gives Adults and Communities the opportunity to recognise, reward and celebrate the work of it’s staff, service users, carers and volunteers. Whether on an individual or team basos, they want to recognise people who help improve the lives of others by going the extra mile.
The awards categories are linked to the 7 Adults & Communities prorities which are: •
- Improved health and wellbeing
- Improved quality of life
- Making a positive contribution
- Exercise of choice and control
- Freedom from discrimination and harrassment
- Economic wellbeing
- Personal dignity
The awards were hosted by Denise Lewis OBE, and she co presented all winners with their awards with the sponsors, strategic director Peter Hay and Councillor Sue Anderson.
The category sponsored by the engagement and recognition team is the BEST award. The finalists for 2010 were David Hanson an administration, Yardley Homecare Team, and Patrick McDonough who is a rehabilitation worker and was a successful applicant to the Dragons’ Den. Patrick was announced as the winner on the night, and presented with his award by Denise Lewis and Chief Executive Stephen Hughes.
Patrick said “I was absolutely stunned to be nominated for a Shining Star and feel quite humbled. I couldn’t have done what I did without the help and support of my team.”
Congratulations to all the deserving winners and of course everyone who contributes to making this event such a success.
