Public Health Team Take BEST on Board
During their workshop last May 09, led by their BEST Leader, Henry Biddington, the Public Health team from District Services in the Chief Executive’s directorate came up with a selection of actions to improve the belief, excellence, success and trust of the team.
Adrienne Wynne, a team member, came up with an idea to improve the belief in the team and an opportunity to ‘show off’ the team’s daily successes to other staff and visitors. The team took this idea on board and it has been so successful, other teams are now starting to do the same!
What’s the idea?
A success board at the entrance to their office now shows positive examples of where the team have made a difference! The "success board has been up and running since July and all the team display photographs of success stories such as food premises being closed, and pictures before they were shut and after they have been re-opened.
Henry commented that through this fairly easy action “…it has improved belief within the team and has made the team feel more valued and recognised…” Other staff and visitors see what a difference Public Health makes on a daily basis.
Why not start to share your team’s successes in the same way?
This team are not short of ideas of improving their working day either! The team felt that information was not being shared between team members as well as it could be and so one of the actions out of the workshop was to provide a forum for information sharing through organising seminars on specific subjects. Monthly BEST team seminars have started and members from the team have the opportunity to speak on specific issues they have been dealing with, followed by general discussions. This has improved communication, sharing of knowledge, support for colleagues, and the standard of service the team provide – not far off the excellent mark wouldn’t you say?
