Personnel Today Awards 2009

Winners of Employee Engagement Category 2009
The Birmingham BEST employee engagement programme has won the prestigious 'Employee Engagement' category at the long awaited Personnel Today Awards.
The judges looked for high-performing organisations that unlocked discretionary effort from their staff through effective employee engagement. Respected leadership, exceptional communication, and a strong sense of community that centred on shared values were key.
The entry focussed on the achievements of the BEST programme in Birmingham and on harnessing the many small changes at front line team level, that have led to an overall transformation in engagement levels across the workforce.
Andy Albon, Director of Human Resources and Equalities, pictured above said "I am delighted that Birmingham City Council's BEST programme has won the Employee Engagement Category award, at the Personnel Today Awards 2009. The award is a testament to the hard work, innovation and creativity of both the BEST programme team, the HR service and employees of Birmingham City Council. We are particularly pleased to be considered alongside large private sector companies, and to have the opportunity to showcase the excellent work that happens in Local Government."
Raffaela Goodby, Employee Engagement Manager, who was responsible for the submission said "This award is really special to us as we are hopefully highlighting how important it is to engage your staff, even in times of financial pressure when cut backs are happening. The Personnel Today awards are regarded so highly in the world of HR, we are absolutely delighted to be a winner".
