About the brand

Our brand is not just our logo! Everything we produce carries an important message about who we are and what we stand for.

BEST has a strong, distinctive and recognisable brand, which is used throughout all our communication. Our brand enables us BEST to be easily identified by employees as well as external organisations.

BEST: Values v Programme

  • Belief, Excellence, Success and Trust are the core values of Birmingham City Council. They are over arching and outline ‘how we do things’ in Birmingham.
  • BEST is a workshop programme established in 2006. Based on the Council’s core values it aims to empower and engage employees.

Using the brand

Tone of Voice
It is important to remember we communicate with a wide cross section of people and how we present ourselves on paper says a great deal about the type of programme we are.

  • Please use the phrases 'Core values programme', 'workshop programme' or 'employee engagement programme' not initiative.
  • The language we use when writing about BEST including actions and successes is friendly, Informal and above all honest.
  • Please articulate the BEST core values when talking about behaviours, values and guiding principles.
  • Success stories relating to the council’s core values, including success resulting from BEST actions, are important as they help to reward and recognise employees hard work and dedication, helping to raise morale and promote engagement amongst employees.

Visual Identity

Colours

  • Each of the four values has its own colour. We use these colours for illustration and as a design tool.

  • For Corporate or more formal branding we use Red, white and grey scale.

Text

  • The BEST brand uses either Ariel or Century Gothic in all uses; titles, headlines and body text. BEST uses a minimum 11pt font for maximum accessibility.

  • To highlight text we use bold we never underline

Please follow our guidance on how to use logos. Do not stretch logos, resize from the corner of the logo or image.

The BEST Logo usually appears in red, but may appear in any of the value colours. It also may appear in white or grey if on coloured or dark background.
