New BEST Leader Steers Team to Award Success

Marvin Palmer from Legal and Democratic Services in the Chief Executive’s directorate had a hard act to follow last year when he took over as BEST leader from Nathan Thomas, a previous winner of a BEST leader of the month award!

But he needn’t have worried. Marvin has been inspirational in terms of keeping his commitment and belief in BEST and has instilled the BEST Core Values into the team. Despite coming late to the process, Marvin managed to run his workshop and the team came up with three successful actions.

Firstly, it was agreed that a short guide of key procedures should be made available for the Business Support Unit on the admin network drive. This was done by Nathan Thomas and Yvonne Brown and now it means that when a member of staff is absent, others can pick up that role and operate effectively, ensuring that service delivery for customers remains high - a real success!

Secondly, Anthony Farmer and Erin Simpson devised a system to track starters, leavers and movers in the section, giving regular updates which allows for records to be updated and unused e-mail and network accounts deleted.

And finally, Anthony and Erin raised the profile of the section at forums such as senior management and director meetings which, along with the good work that the section was obviously carrying out, led to them being awarded the Legal and Democratic Services internal team of the year!
