Local Brief Team are Living It!
The Corporate Procurement Services Strategy Team in the Chief Executive’s directorate have won a BEST Team of the Month award after being nominated by their Senior Management for work arising from their 2008 BEST workshop.
The team has a key role within Corporate Procurement Services (CPS) to ensure that good practices are shared and that internal and external communications are effective. They produce and distribute the CPS Local Brief, which is used to inform staff about team and individual success stories, future team plans and new ways of working being used to improve our services. Following their BEST workshop earlier in 2008, the Strategy Team agreed to make improving the Local Brief one of their BEST actions.
They have since completely overhauled the Local Brief process to ensure that all teams and staff in CPS contribute to it, which has helped improve both communication and relationships across the division. They have also substantially improved the newsletter’s design so that it is much easier for team leaders to brief their teams and making it a good read for all staff.
Their efforts have been rewarded, with contributions now being regularly submitted from across all sections of CPS and much more interest in the content. Local briefing of teams has been rejuvenated by this and it is clear that the vast majority of CPS staff have an improved knowledge and understanding about what is happening in other teams as well as their own.
The team richly deserved their BEST Team of the Month award for using BEST to enhance their daily working practices, not only improving communication within their own team, but enhancing staff knowledge and understanding throughout the Service and helping to build trust.
