'Living It' - October 2009

Winning BEST leader of the month for October was Adam McVeighty from Sheldon & Kents Moat Libraries in the Housing & Constituencies Directorate. Nominated by his manager, Faydene Gillings Grant, Adam was praised for his enthusiasm in leading his team to come up with some fantastic BEST actions, from more regular display changes, books of the week, reading challenges and even a joke of the week display to brighten up the library for its service users. The team are also planning a community fundraising event for all ages within the community. Joint working was another action identified by the team and Adam is pushing forward a project to work with the local neighbourhood office in order to build up relationships with other departments and gain a better knowledge of Birmingham City Council Services for their customers.
October’s manager of the month was Sajid Rehman from Service Birmingham within the Chief Executive’s directorate, who was nominated by colleague Shaun Elston. Sajid was nominated because he is always prepared to listen to his staff and act on what they say, he is also keen on receiving any feedback from BEST workshops. Sajid not only actively supports and encourages the actions that come out of workshops but also helps to remove barriers and gives the team all of the necessary time to discuss the core values.
Congratulations to all our winners on their success. If you would like to nominate someone or are looking for more information regarding the Monthly “Living It” Awards please contact Lucy L Kenny on 0121 675 1579, email BEST or check out our 'Living It' section on this website.
