'Living It' - November 2010
November saw two teams being awarded the Living It of the Month Team award. Firstly, the Visual Impairments Team from Adults and Communities Directorate; the team were nominated by Byron Batten. Byron felt the team undertook a fantastic action & Dragons’ Den bid to implement a new service for the benefit of their service users. The teams commitment to their service saw them implement six new machines into libraries across Birmingham to enable their service users to read their own correspondence rather than relying on staff reading to them once a week.
The Working for the Future team from Chief Executives Directorate were nominated by Tracy Lawrence. Tracy nominated the team for their hard work in successfully moving all staff from Alpha Tower to Lancaster Circus. The move went without any major issues, the team provided on-going support and enthusiasm, even during busy and stressful times. Without the team spirit and belief, the 1 Lancaster Circus project would not have been such a key triumph for the Council. The project has enabled the council to save £71 Million of running costs over the next 25 years and given staff a nice new open environment.
The BEST Leader of the Month award went to Sandra Tonks of the Housing and Constituencies Directorate. Sandra was nominated by Gaynor Roberts for her committed, caring and hardworking approach to her role, she will take on any role required and is fully trusted and respected by everyone. Sandra also led the team through their BEST workshop, coming up with the successful actions such as ‘streetgames’, a regular football tournament for service users and fun & fitness for little ones, giving regular exercise to children.
