'Living It' - June 2011
We've seen many winners of both the BEST monthly ‘Living It’ Awards and the BEST Dragons’ Den project over the past few months. You’ve continued to impress!
Tasneem Akhtar, Assistant Care Manager at Fountain Road Centre, Children, Young People and Families was nominated by Lorna Alves for manager of the month.
Tasneem is a very devoted and hard working member of staff; she embraces her role and is committed to engaging with young people. She is supportive of everyone, being approachable and always willing to help. Tasneem is a credit to the team and positively leads by example.
Team of the month winners Transportation Projects Team, Development Directorate, were nominated by Jackie Culliford.
The team have produced outstanding work and their achievements have been recognised through successfully winning awards such as being Highly Commended for their approach to sustainability and winning the Overall Award for best project at the Construction Awards 2011.
The team make significant efforts to work together as a cohesive unit, achieving set objectives of each project and those defined in the Project Charter. They supervised the critical drive of the new 70m Railway Bridge supporting the existing Birmingham to Gloucester railway. They worked over the Christmas period to ensure the heaviest bridge deck in Europe was put in place.
The first employee of the month, Viv Eden form Adults and Communities, has been a dedicated member of staff, putting the needs of the service users first for over 10 years.
In March of this year, Viv organised an outstanding event for over 700 people from the voluntary and third sector to look at the possibility of learning and leisure opportunities in local communities. Councillor Sue Anderson said the event was an outstanding success. The event was Viv’s vision and her ambition and attention to detail was first class.
Last, but by no means least, employee of the month winner John Doherty from the Development Directorate was nominated by Denise Barrett and Jackie Culliford. John has been recognised for his length of service within the directorate, he has been dedicated to securing regeneration and quality of life outcomes for residents. John has a ‘can-do’ attitude, he is prepared to volunteer for tasks when others may stand back and he always delivers high quality work whilst maintaining his wonderful sense of humour.
This nomination is to show the great appreciation from colleagues for all John’s hard work in the directorate; he has been a credit to the department.
Congratulations to our winners, they will all be invited to our next recognition event to collect their certificate and trophies along with our other winners.
