Winning a BEST “Living It” team award is a real boost for the team members and has a positive impact on the way the team work with each other, with their partners, and to the service they deliver either within Birmingham City Council or to our citizens. Nominating is easy, and anyone can nominate a colleague or their team for a job well done, or for going the extra mile.

The judging panel were particularly impressed with two applications in February, these were the LAC CAMHS South Team from the Children, Young People and Families direcorate, and Druids Heath Neighbourhood Team from Housing and Constituencies.

The LAC team were nominated by Shairose Premji for their outstanding teamwork. The team have been focussing on the implementation of the new Dialeticical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) Service recently as a new project, as well as family therapy. They have demonstrated the core value of belief, and working hard to build relationships with their customers whilst always supporting each other. They have made improvements to their service as well as developing even more new ideas for the future. Well done to the team! The Druids Heath neighbourhood team were nominated by Sonia Hussain. She has been involved with the team over the past year and believes that they have demonstrated a joined up, partnership approach to services and that as an outcome they have seen real improvements and results. As a team, their customer service is excellent and they ALWAYS go the extra mile. Well done the Druids Heath team, keep it up!

Our BEST Leader award this month goes to Gary Edwards who is the Duty Manager from Stechford Cascades Leisure Centre. Gary was judged to be a winner as he has encouraged his team to come up with productive and creative BEST workshop actions. He provided a link between his colleagues and management team, making sure any improvement suggestions can be discussed by managers. Gary is a committed member of staff and committed BEST Leader; leading an impressive seven teams through the workshop process, always with a positive attitude. Impressive work Gary, well done!

Last but not least, one of the coveted Senior Leadership Awards was recently presented to Chris Gibbs who is an Assistant Director in Revenues & Benefits. Chris won this award as he is a dynamic leader, who promotes change and encourages innovation from all his staff who have said he always takes the time to listen. Chris has also actively engaged with Central Government in a bid to secure administration of the new Universal Credit benefit system, therefore hopefully securing jobs for existing staff. He is always positive about Birmingham City Council and the difference made to customers, a real advocate. Well done Chris.

Congratulations to all our winners on their success. If you would like to nominate someone or are looking for more information regarding the Monthly “Living It” Awards please contact Charlie Ody on 0121 675 1579, email BEST or go to the 'Living It' section on this website.
