'Living It' - June 2009

BEST Leader of the month for June 2009 was Natalie Hill from the Older Adults Business Support Team, within the Adults & Communities Directorate. Natalie was nominated by her colleague Bina Patel for her amazing enthusiasm, which has never ceased. She has implemented a BEST wall within her office where the team put up photos and information to allow them to monitor the progress of their BEST actions. Natalie also makes sure that everyone is included in workshops encouraging quieter members of the team to speak up.
Winning the BEST Team of the month was The Forward 4 Work Team from Disability Employment Solutions from the Development Directorate. The team were nominated by their manager Kathryn Davis who felt that the team’s belief in their ability to change and develop was an inspiration, she was also proud that her team set new and exciting challenges to improve their front line services. The team never say no to requests for help and use their innovative approach to resolve issues and build upon their strengths taking pride in the work and achievements of both their colleagues and service users. Overall Kathryn felt “The team have more good days than bad and know that when things go wrong or bad things happen to good people, they just trust each other to listen and support, to give a hug when needed and not to judge but just be there.”
June 2009 saw two awards being handed out for Senior Leader of the Month. These were to Waheed Nazir from Planning and Regeneration within the Development Directorate and Sue Ayres from Looked After Children’s Services in the Children, Young People & Families Directorate.
Waheed was nominated by member of staff Jackie Culliford for his unshakeable belief in everything he does, firmly believing that everything the team do is to improve the lives of those living in the most deprived communities. He has inspired many both from within the Council and external partners into focussing their attention on contributing to the worklessness agenda. His focus, drive and ability to see the potential in other people’s ideas combined with his inspirational skills have helped staff to develop, whilst his personal and professional manner demonstrate high levels of respect and trust in his staff, empowering them to succeed.
Nominated by Jan Rapport, Sue was praised for her hands on approach. She leads by example and supports her staff wherever necessary and is not afraid to get back into the classroom and teach. Sue is always keen to share success and will email the team to congratulate staff pointing out both individual and team successes, thanking them for their contributions. She places a great emphasis on staff development and it is this attitude that leaves her team feeling both valued and trusted
