LGC Mini Challenge - February 2010
Following the success and excellent feedback from the 2008 mini challenges, Birmingham City Council will be holding our 3rd Local Government Chronicle Mini Challenge on 24 February 10.
The all day event involves teams of 4-6 people taking on the role of a Local Authority Management Team to take on the day to day challenges faced by managers such as budget constraints, crisis management and damage limitation. Teams must pit their wits against each other in a competitive, stimulating and fun environment, whilst offering the opportunity for teams to improve how they work together, and make decisions effectively. Teams must also work together with public sector organisations to make sure each other’s corporate priorities are respected whilst achieving the best outcomes for all.
The event is designed to offer staff personal development in areas such as: Interpersonal skills, political awareness, initiative, creativity and self-motivation. You will benefit from the chance to learn how to strategically plan, prioritise and action, diagnose and analyse strategic problems and opportunities and build teams and develop partnerships. Teams also learn crucial team building and partnership working, negotiating, influencing and presentation skills.
The challenge offers a great opportunity to look at the way public sector organisations work together especially in Birmingham, one of the national pilot areas for the government’s Total Place initiative.
This year we are being joined by teams from our partners in Birmingham, which is a great opportunity for you to network, gain understanding of other organisations, as well as achieve additional evidence on 'working with partners' for your PDR reviews. This will be a motivating inspiring day, and the opportunity for you to step outside of the day job pressures, and develop yourself and your teams, with real outcomes.
