Generation BEST member gets medal!

CARE services administrator from Adults and Communities – Dharmendra Singh – has been picked by coordinators of the Young UK and Ireland Programme, for their Inveramsay medal. The programme, a national charity, aims to develop the communication skills of people in their early careers, or doing voluntary work.

Dharmendra was one of only two people nationally to get the medal in 2010 – for his outstanding and continuing contribution to the programme.

He had previously joined other Birmingham City Council colleagues to help secure the titles ‘Young Metropolitan Authority of the Year’ and ‘Local Government Young Thinker (Runner-up)’. His weekly film reviews for the Scottish Review – an online newspaper closely associated with the programme – are also recognised.

Dharmendra told us: “Despite the less than ideal circumstances we’re all in, we don’t have to give up our aspirations. Now is the time to pursue them more than ever. Discovering Generation BEST gave me a renewed sense of purpose. The network nurtures talent and encourages creativity. Come on, join me and the hundreds of others who make up Generation BEST.”

You can access Dharmendra’s reviews of the latest films, free, at www.scottishreview.net

GENERATION BEST is for colleagues who are young in terms of age, career – or outlook. The network offers great opportunities for staff to: work across directorates, access corporate management team, shadow senior managers, secure personalised training and development – including skills like public speaking – and work with young professionals through our partnership with Birmingham Futures.
