The summer HR Excellence Awards saw Birmingham City Council fight off public and private sector companies, to win the Outstanding Employee Engagement Strategy category, as well as being crowned overall 'Gold' Winners!

    We were so surprised to win the Gold Award - and so proud as we were amongst many brilliant private sector companies, as well as other public sector organisations. Stephen Moir and his team from Cambridgeshire were also successful, so it was a positive night for Council's overall!

Winners of Outstanding Employee Engagement Strategy - Birmingham City Council BEST Programme

Birmingham City Council was awarded the HR Excellence Gold Award by HR magazine for "doing something that makes a real difference to employees and their quality of service delivery."

BEST (short for Belief, Excellence, Success and Trust) was what Birmingham City Council's HR chiefs named this inventive employee engagement policy, and best it now certainly is, as it take this year's coveted gold award at the 2009 Excellence Awards.

Sian Harrington - Editor of HR magazine said "Birmingham City Council was the overwhelming choice for the winner of HR magazine¹s Gold Award and it was a unanimous decision. The organisation has really demonstrated HR excellence by transforming companyculture in a consistent way."

Judges' comments

Judges were universal in their praise for this project, highlighting its "very clear vision and amazing ROI", its "business focus" and for "doing something that makes a real difference to employees and their quality of service delivery."
