Selly Oak Community Go Green

Bee There!
In March this year BEST Leader Dave Rose and his colleague Richard Green from the Selly Oak Constituency Team approached the Dragons’ Den asking for funding to host their “Hi There, Bee There Goes Green’ event in August. The team, working in partnership with Cocks Moor Woods Leisure Centre & Be Birmingham wanted to bring the local community together with the focus on going green, sustainability and promoting their Bee Active scheme. The team approached the Den for an arts bus for children, re-useable banners and goody bags with information in promoting the local council services. The Dragons’ thoroughly enjoyed their innovative presentation and were delighted to provide the funding required for this community event.
Hi There...Bee There...Goes Green' event took place outside the main entrance to Cocks Moor Woods Leisure Centre on Tuesday 3 August from 10am - 3pm. Over 300 members of the community attended throughout the day enjoying a range of environmentally themed green activities such as hydrogen powered cars and scalectrix sets, smoothie bike makers, outdoor beach and paddling pool area complete with deck chairs, buckets & spades, palm trees and wind breakers.

The event was supported by various partners; West Midlands Police, West Midlands Fire Service, Kings Heath and District Neighbourhood Watch Network Group, Oxfam, Friends of the Earth, South Birmingham Community Radio station, School of Chemical Engineering at Birmingham University, Birmingham City Council Regulatory Services and Road Safety Team. A great example of partnership working.
The team were thrilled they were able to host a fun filled event for all the community to enjoy, and worked well together as a team demonstrating belief, excellence, success and trust in order to deliver the BEST possible service that they could.
