Generation BEST Meets Training Needs

Last updated 4th August 2009

Following a professional development questionnaire earlier this year, Generation BEST are offering free training courses on Facilitation Skills and Managing Change.

The courses are offered exclusively to Generation BEST members and have been designed especially for early career and aspiring managers. As the Council moves through a period of organisational change, advice on how to guide staff through this process and how to get the most out of meetings were the two most requested training needs.

Each one day course will cover:

Managing Change
• Understanding the way individuals respond to change
• Change as an emotional journey
• Why people resist change and how these barriers can be overcome
• How to introduce change and get the momentum going
• Managing Change - Kotter's 8 Steps including:
- Building the guiding team
- Getting the vision right
- Communicating for buy-in
- Using story telling as a tool
- Personal resilience

Facilitation Skills
• What is the role of the facilitator and what does it mean?
• The benefits of good facilitation
• Identify your own learning style
• How confident a facilitator are you?
• What makes you a good facilitator?
• Six interventions in facilitation
• Some practical examples of dealing with difficult behaviour
• A chance to practise!
