Charlie Ody

I joined Birmingham City Council as a Planning Support Officer within Planning Management in August 2005. This was largely a very busy frontline role; I was primarily in a call centre environment, answering sometimes quite technical questions.

In 2008, I became the team’s BEST leader. I could see that this was a chance for the team to talk openly about the way we worked and if necessary make some small but positive changes that we felt were needed.

In November 2008, I joined the BEST team as Programme Officer, offering help and support primarily to people in the A&C Directorate. My experience as a leader and witnessing positive changes within an occasionally negative team, gave me the inclination to want to work on something that improves someone’s day. If I can help just one person, then my day has been successful.
