Change Is For The BEST
Two teams from the Early Years division in the Children, Young People and Families directorate have found that focusing on change in the future can improve their working environment in the present!
The Information and Support Team for Children’s Centres and the Monitoring and Evaluation Central Support Team work in the same building but on their own separate remits. They agreed that holding joint BEST workshops would be the ideal opportunity to bring the teams together so that they could communicate effectively using the four core values and build joint working relationships. This has led to improved communications and regular team meetings.
One of the team’s particular successes was to use a BEST workshop to focus on the issue of change. The team looked at each others’ learning styles, explored their own reactions to change, took part in frank discussions, and used ice breakers and other activities around the theme of change to get to know each other better.
BEST has opened the doors for communication to ensure the two teams strive for better outcomes for children and share the BEST values, especially trust. They value everybody’s contribution and regularly acknowledge team or individual successes as part of their new, joint team meetings.
