Staff decided to use BEST to say ‘thank you’ to the residents of a Sutton Sheltered Housing scheme, by throwing a tea party for them. BEST Leaders Gail Yarrington and Pam Ryan organised the ‘tea party’ for the residents at Hellaby Court, Sutton. They wanted to thank them for the use of their rooms for staff meetings for the community-based, “Sutton Short Term” team.

Carers dipped into their own pockets to supply sandwiches, cakes, and sausage rolls for visitors to the centre, and even invited the neighbours to join in. “We wanted to give something back”, said Gail, when asked why the team put on the party for the residents. They invited Age Concern and West Midlands Fire Service to attend the tea party, and talk to the residents about the services they offer.

Staff even supplied items to be ‘won’ in a free raffle for the residents, ranging from chocolates, perfume, books and ornaments. “We invited local people to attend the tea party. I am glad some have come and brought their children along, so that the residents do not feel isolated from the local community.”
