BEST Leader Network – 10 November 2011
Councillor Alan Rudge, Cabinet Member for Equalities and Humans and Stephen Hughes, Chief Executive of Birmingham City Council invited BEST Leaders to attend the BEST Leader Network Event.
The half day event took place on Thursday 10 November 2011 in the Banqueting Suite, Council House. This was an opportunity for BEST Leaders to hear an update from Stephen Hughes on Birmingham City Council’s current situation and the changes taking place. BEST Leaders were able to ask their questions directly to the Chief Executive and received an honest and open response.
The Lord Mayor Anita Ward attended the conference to thank Council employees for their hard work and commitment, to increase the awareness of her Charity Appeal and to present Council employees with their BEST Dragons’ Den awards. The Dragons’ Den scheme is designed to give BEST Leaders the opportunity to apply for resources in order to implement their BEST actions and improve their service delivery. Councillor Alan Rudge presented several BEST ‘Living It’ awards to worthy Leaders who have been carrying out fantastic and truly living the values.
A thought provoking presentation was given on Safeguarding Children and explaining our role as Council employees and citizens of Birmingham. The Leaders took part in table top discussions, working through scenarios and sharing their views on the subject. To enable Leaders to be prepared for the challenges which they face, we held a Leader development session. Leaders took part in a workshop around leadership and began to understand the importance of embracing change.
The conference was a huge success with the evaluation showing Stephen Hughes update to be one of the most useful parts of the session.
One Leader commented “All aspects of the day were useful. The safeguarding of children session was excellent and I will now share the information with my team. All of the BEST team were helpful, thank you for your support”.
