BEST Dragons' Den Review
One year into the BEST Dragons’ Den, having held 8 events, with 75 applicants, 58 teams short listed to face the dragons, with 52 amazing successful bids we undertook a review to look at how the project was running, how applicants felt after their success and whether it had made a difference to the way they viewed the Council’s core values.
We surveyed all teams that had been to through the process, been successful and there had been at least six months for them to achieve their action and see a difference. This led to 30 teams being interviewed and asked the same series of questions. The questions mainly focussed on whether their action had been completed and how the funding had been spent. There were also other questions designed to gauge the longer term success of Dragons’ Den and here are the results:
How do the team feel about their Dragons’ Den success and how do they feel about their action now it is complete?
87% of the teams interviewed gave a positive and enthusiastic response, of the 13% who did not all of them were yet to complete the action they had funding for and are working alongside the BEST team to ensure that this happens as soon as possible.
Some of the responses can be seen below:
“Staff were really supportive and happy about their dragons success and it has brought the team closer together as all three centres have taken part in the project and benefited from it. They are happy with what has been achieved so far but it is ongoing.” Ayla Young
“The team were really pleased about their success as they got to see the community enjoying the fun day and benefiting also. We really enjoyed the experience and have belief that we could do something like this again!” Kevin Duffy
“The team were really happy about their dragons success. They are relieved that the action has been completed but it was worth all of the hard work they put in.” Carol Dawson
“The team were really pleased about their dragons success as it has made the working environment a nicer place to work.” Tabriz Hussain
Do you feel that the action has made a difference to the team/ customers/ partners?
83% of those asked felt that their action had made a difference to either, their team, their customers or their partners. The remaining 17% felt that there was still a bit more work to be done towards their actions or they had not been able to complete them so they could not answer.
Some of the responses can be seen below:
“Yes the team are a lot happier, work closer together and it has even improved sickness levels” Michele Floyd
“The action has made a huge difference to the team and increased productivity” David Lewis
“Yes the action has helped to bring the team together and has increased staff morale. Since the event the library has even seen an increase in the number of children that have been visiting the library” Vicci Trigger
“The action has made a difference to the team and also the people it will make a difference to the most are those who use their learning disability services.” Sarah Gimson
Has your success changed how the team feel about BEST? Are more people now involved? Are more people volunteering to take ownership of actions?
77% of those asked said that they had seen an improvement in the way people felt about BEST with a couple of teams saying that they were preparing further Dragons’ Den applications. 17% said that the team had pretty much stayed the same since they had won at Dragons’ Den but that the team had always been positive. A final 6% said that they had faced difficulties in completing actions but felt that once completed they would see a change for the better.
