I joined Birmingham City Council in 2003 after completing my degree in International Business Management. My Career began working in the Corporate Recruitment Team (CRT) as a Recruitment Officer before progressing to Principal Recruitment Officer within the team.
In 2006 I moved to the HR Strategy team where I worked for 2 years on the pay and grading review, building on the work of colleagues to help implement the new employment package and revised terms and conditions. A key element of this role was communication and engagement with all levels of the organisations, Cabinet Members and also trades unions.
Continuing within the HR function, I then moved to work on Reward and Recognition where I was service designer for the Recognition work-stream, helping to develop the basis of a corporate approach to recognition, working with colleagues from BEST, the Chamberlain Awards Team and also Directorate Communications teams.
In January 2009, I took up my current post as Cabinet Support Officer. The role is varied and no two days are the same, the role involves supporting Cllr Rudge on numerous projects which he is Cabinet sponsor for such as BEST, EPM , and the Chamberlain Awards as well other initiatives which he takes the lead on such as Community Cohesion, Reducing Guns Gangs and Violence and also working with Faith Groups.
As well as supporting Cllr Rudge at events and in meetings, the role also involves working closely with Directors from across the organisation, managers, other cabinet support officers and employees, both within the portfolio and across the organisations, as well as external partners such as Be Birmingham, West Midlands Police and other stakeholders.
One of the reasons why I enjoy working for Birmingham City Council is because each and every employee has the opportunity to contribute to the success of the Council and the delivery of its services to the 1 million plus citizens of Birmingham. Everyone has the opportunity to make a difference no matter how big or small, the BEST programme helps employees to do this, be it in their teams locally, or through pitching an idea to the Dragons Den, similarly it also gives them a voice to engage with colleagues and managers across the organisation.
