Andrew Potter
I have worked for the Council on and off since 2002, I have had a number of different roles working for Adults and Communities in a temporary role, Children Young People and Families in a Management Support Officer Role, in HR and joining the BEST Team in 2007. I enjoy my role best when I am out and about meeting Leaders and Managers either at training sessions or during events to celebrate the good work that colleagues within the Directorate have done.
I was part of a team of colleagues from across the Council who represented Birmingham at the LGC National Challenge. This was an event where 60 Councils spent the day being part of the Senior Management Team of one of four fictitious Councils. We were in charge of Washington who had many different problems which we needed to sort out as a Management Team. This taught me the need to work together as a team and also to consider other Councils within our District and the need to work with partner organisations in order to start to sort out our problems.
We were the one team from Birmingham City Council that were not a natural working team and we did not meet collectively until the day. Despite this we were 9th overall, the highest placed Birmingham Team and recognised as working the best as a Team. It is from this that my passion is to ensure that teams start to realise that they need to work together better, all of us can improve this even if we already work well together and we need to start to work towards far greater partnership working to ensure that Birmingham becomes the excellent City Council that I believe it should be.
