Lord Mayor's Charities 2011/12
Lord Mayor's Charities
Throughout the Lord Mayor's and Consorts term in office they support a number of local charities which are close to their hearts. For 2011/12 the charities which will be supported by Lord Mayor's Charity Appeal are:

Tiny Babies Big Appeal
The Tiny Babies Big Appeal
The Birmingham Women’s NHS Foundation Trust original Neonatal Unit was built 30 years ago and the present unit opened in 1987. The number of sick and premature babies received by the Neonatal Unit has dramatically increased over recent years, last year it cared for 920 babies. The increasing birth rate and other social factors will mean more newborn babies needing treatment. In addition to the babies born at Birmingham Women’s Hospital, babies come from hospitals across the West Midlands for its specialist care. They require more capacity and space to meet these demands. The Tiny Babies Big Appeal aims to raise as much funds as possible to build a superb new Neonatal Centre on the site of the existing facility.
Unfortunately, both of the Lord Mayor's children were born extremely prematurely. This has lead to a life-long interest and commitment to the welfare of premature babies.

Irish Guards Appeal
The Irish Guards Appeal
The Irish Guards Appeal supports the families of those killed in action by promptly responding to problems of bereavement and hardship. They support those wounded or injured on operations, particularly those who have had to leave the Army; to assist in finding them new employment and to help them become active family and community members. The Lord Mayor’s son is also a serving member of this Regiment.

St Margaret Community Trust
St Margaret's Community Trust
St Margaret's Church in Ward End is in the Lord Mayor's constituency. St Margaret's Community Trust has been specifically formed to try and extend and refurbish the old Church in Ward End, to create a multi-purpose community centre. It will be a new centre for the parishioners to worship but will also be a centre for the community where the Church will host activities as well as giving help and support to people in the area.

The Royal British Legion
The Royal British Legion, Birmingham Branch
The Royal British Legion is the nation's leading Armed Forces charity providing care and support to all members of the British Armed Forces past and present and their families. It is also the national Custodian of Remembrance and safeguards the Military Covenant between the nation and its Armed Forces. It is best known for the annual Poppy Appeal and its emblem the red poppy.
