2009 Chamberlain Awards

THE eagerly awaited fifth annual Chamberlain Awards staff recognition ceremony took, place at the ICC on 6 November. Cllr Alan Rudge, cabinet member for equalities and human resources, hailed it “the high point of the year, where we recognise and celebrate the hard work and efforts of all of those employees who have gone the extra mile to provide excellence in service delivery either internally to colleagues or externally to service users"

The Chamberlain Awards scheme was set up back in 2005 by Cllr Rudge to recognise and reward excellence and achievement in the workplace. It’s named after the civic leader and former mayor of Birmingham, Joseph Chamberlain, who also worked tirelessly to improve services in the city. This year’s ceremony attracted 450 guests, including finalists and their supporters, helpers and hosts, directorate respresentatives and more than 18 sponsors. VIP guests including the head of the West Midlands fire service Vijith Randeniya and Anil Patani, Assistant Chief Constable of WestMidlands Police

This year’s host celebrity, comedian and author Rhona Cameron, said: “The people nominated for the Chamberlain Awards are a real example to everyone about the importance of community and how a few people can make a large difference.”
